NOTE: We received an overwhelming number of applications for both Redman and Tater and are no longer accepting new applications. Since this is a holiday week and many of our volunteers are taking time off, we will review all applications by the end of the week and reach out to those adopters we plan to move forward with. Thanks for your understanding and patience. ******* Meet Tater, a Cavapoo purchased by his owner five months ago from a puppy broker, a business that buys puppies from various breeders and then resells them for profit. His owner purchased two puppies simultaneously, which is a lot for any owner to take on. He is also battling depression and just wasn’t able to properly care for them. Initially, he listed both puppies on Craigslist (unneutered) for a giveaway. Thankfully, a friend of one of our volunteers saw it and contacted Worthy Dog to take them in. She educated the owner about the dangers of giving dogs away online, and he took down the post and did the right thing, surrendering them to our rescue. Tater is 8 months old and will be getting neutered next week. He’s currently being fostered in SC with his foster mom, Renee, and her sweet pup, Ryder. Tater and Ryder hit it off right away, and he’s proven to have good house manners. We checked in with Renee for a one-week update: FOSTER MOM UPDATE – 12/20/24 “Tater is an awesome pup. He is full of life and love and very adaptable. He follows me all around the house and has learned when it’s time to go to bed for the night. He picked up my routine so quickly and now gets in bed and waits for me. He’s a smart boy who has already stolen my heart!! Tater and Ryder started running and playing together from day one. They are so good together, and Tater respects Ryder’s space when he is napping and doesn’t want to play. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs and has met some of my neighbor dogs, too. I think he’s confident enough to be an only dog or would be best paired with an active pup playmate. Tater is house- and crate-trained. He will go right into his crate when I tell him it’s time to Kennel Up! I haven’t left him out yet when I run errands because of all the Christmas stuff around the house. He loves his toys and will fetch and return. He loves his ball! (He has gone for the ball on the Christmas tree, that's why we are using the crate.) Tater is a smart boy. He already understands ‘no,’ ‘come,’ ‘sit,’ and we are working on ‘stay’ and ‘down.’ He greets everyone he meets with joy and will jump up on them to say Hi. We are working on that, and he’s just a young pup who is still learning. When Tater gets up in the morning, he likes to go out, eat, and play!! He likes to chase squirrels and birds in the backyard and sometimes just run for fun. He has a lot of energy at times but naps hard too. He is leash-trained and does very well on walks.” ********** Tater is a young, fun-loving, social boy who will make a great family dog. He needs an active home and would love to be your hiking buddy or sidekick to go on daily life adventures. He will be coming to town on 1/11, ready to go home and start his new life. Apply today! You can also help save dogs like this one by becoming a foster, providing a rescue dog with a temporary home and giving them the love and care they need until they are permanently adopted. Every person who fosters is directly responsible for saving the life of a dog, because we can only save as many dogs as we have foster families available to welcome them into their homes. If you think you might be interested in becoming a foster and want to learn more, please go to https://foster.worthydog.org and fill out an application. Worthy Dog Rescue is an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue that primarily adopts to families in the DC Metro area.
