Smokey is a former stray who decided she would like very much to be an indoor cat. She is an incredibly sweet and loving lap-kitty who is estimated to be 2 – 3 years old. She is spayed, updated on vaccines, and flea-free. She is also FIV+, which means she has a weakened immune system that makes her more susceptible to secondary infections. FIV is not contagious to humans or other animal species, only to other cats. The Feline Immunodeficiency Virus is primarily transmitted through deep bite wounds or through sex. So Smokey can still live in a home with FIV negative cats if they are all spayed/neutered and have a stable and happy social environment. In fact, she’s currently being fostered with other cats. Cats with FIV can live perfectly normal lives with average life spans but, because the virus attacks the immune system, it leaves her more susceptible to infections. It does not necessarily require any additional expensive veterinary care, just basic common sense and in-home support to keep her safe from injury or illness. So with adequate precautions, awareness, and veterinary guidance, Smokey can still live to a ripe old age.To inquire about adopting this cat please complete an adoption application at tinyurl.com/ccapadoptions Once you submit an adoption application, a foster will reach out within 48 hours to schedule a meet-and-greet or ask any additional questions.
