Meet Scout! This sweet boy was abandoned by someone in a Good Samaritan’s backyard — the family woke up one morning and found him there. So they took him in and started looking for his family to no avail, but they quickly discovered what a good boy he is. He has wonderful house manners, rides great in the car, and was an instant hit with their three dogs and kids. When no one responded to claim him, they contacted Worthy Dog for help. Scout has been in his foster home for almost two months now. On intake, we discovered he was heartworm positive, so he likely lived as an outside dog and had owners who did not protect him. Thankfully, that life is well behind him now. He’s done well in his foster home, living as part of a pack. He’s crate-trained and housetrained and has never had an accident in his foster home. He is a fun-loving, confident, active boy who loves everyone he meets and is a champion cuddler. His foster mom describes him as a love bug. ****** We checked in with his foster mom, Renee, for an update: “Scout is such a happy dog, full of energy, and very loving. He and Ryder got along great from the very beginning. They both love to run and chase squirrels in the yard. Scout will even run the fence and play with the neighbor’s dog. He is an active boy who would do well with a pack or as an only dog. A fenced yard would be the best fit for him as he loves to run. I harness him for walks, and he does better than with just his collar…less pulling. He still needs some work on his leash skills and is just excited to go and do! He’s only 22lbs, so very controllable. Scout has never met a stranger and is a very friendly pup. He’ll make a great family dog and is good around kids. He has met my grandkids many times. He loves his toys and will play fetch with the kids in the yard. He gets so excited when they visit, he will get the zoomies while playing and is pure joy. He may jump in excitement when he meets you, but we are working on a firm “no”, “down” and sit. He’s doing well with his commands. This sweet boy is very affectionate and loves to cuddle. The closer he is to me the happier he is. He will sit beside me and would love to sit in my lap always if I’d let him. He is crate-trained but needs a treat and encouragement to go in. I only crated him a few times and started leaving him out for short errands. I leave him out all the time now. I trust him and he’s had no issues in the house. He usually sleeps on the couch or watches for me at the front window. Overall he is a good boy with a lot of love and energy. He would do well with an active family that wants a dog who can join them in social activities. He’s very adaptable and just wants to be part of the mix.” ****** Scout has been treated for heartworm and is ready to start his new life. He needs a fun, active family and would LOVE a doggy playmate in his home. He’s confident enough to be an only dog but needs a family committed to his playtime and exercise.  Coming to DC metro on 10/12. Apply today!    BREED ESTIMATE: Terrier Mix GENDER: Male APPROXIMATE WEIGHT:  22 lbs  APPROXIMATE AGE: ~  5 years COAT TYPE: Short coat ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/neutered/microchipped – treated for heartworm LOCATION:  Rock Hill, SC   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application.
