Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs – but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.  Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.  Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.  Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team   Date into Rescue:  07/04/24 Reason for being in rescue: Minette was turned into CPR from a local shelter after a foster home she had been placed in had an accident and Minette was hit by a car resulting in two broken legs.   Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Yes -Minette was hit by a car and both her front and back legs on her left side and were broken and her pelvis was fractured.  She had surgery to correct the legs and the pelvis healed on its own.  She walks with a limp although she is getting stronger every day.  We are grateful she can walk at all.    Weight: 36.9 lbs – which is a good weight and she should not gain any more Height: 23 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $599 Fence needed? Yes – Minette loves to romp and play and needs the exercise to continue to strengthen the tendons and muscles in her legs after her long confinement post surgery.  Just leash walking would not be in her best interest.  If you have a plan for off leash socialization and play a minimum of 3 times per week for a minimum of one to two hours per session, we can discuss depending on your plan.   What kind of home would be best for me? Minette is a well-behaved young lady who was raised with children and other dogs, but she was raised outside in a back yard.  House training was a bit of a challenge when she first came in but thanks to surgery crate rest, we started teaching her early and she now has free run of her kennel room, and she keeps her kennel room clean.  She does not eat beds or toys although she loves to play with toys.  She will need a home that will first off understand that she has never had free run of an entire house and you will need to teach her what that means, what she can do and what she should not do.   Minette craves affection and attention and loves to be touched and petted. She will lay down when you get physically close to her, and we think she feels safer if she is laying down.  She does not have a couch to get on right now in her area, but we think she would like to learn to lay on one with you. Minette does not necessarily need a mansion or lots of square footage. She does need a committed owner who has attention and love to give her.  We would prefer a person who only works part time away from home or a work from home person.  Minette is not independent.  She needs people. She loves other dogs, but she could be an only dog with the right human BFF.   What is my personality like? Bouncy, affectionate and ready to play, Minette is all standard poodle all the time. She is saucy, sweet and has an opinion on things.  She can also pout in the cutest way.  If it's time for her to go up or go in and she is not ready, she stomps her feet at you and then goes in but first you have to hear about it. Minette is not a fan of cars. She does not get car sick. She is fine once she is in, but she is not going crazy about going into a car or being around cars.  Considering what happened to her, this is not a surprise.  We think with time and patience, she will see that no more cars are going to hit her, and she can relax when they are around, but she will always be a little apprehension about big steel machines.   Minette is fully crate trained and she walks well on a leash.  She likes hard rubber toys and Kong toys and is ready to do what you wish for a treat.  We crate trained her with milk bones.  Milk bone went in – Minette went in right after it.   Minette needs some basic training.  She has always, until July, been an outside dog in a pack of dogs. She is ready to learn, and we think she would thoroughly enjoy a basis obedience class.  She also has all the makings of a good therapy dog with training and more socialization.  She is a loving, giving dog and her story is a story of resilience and survival.   How do I act when I first meet new people? She will say hi ya'll! Minette loves to hang out with new folks.   Other tips and tidbits: Estimated birthdate 02/07/22 – Minette has had one litter of puppies.  She also had a mile form of pneumonia earlier this fall which she has completely recovered from.   Minette's front and back left legs were broken after she was struck by a car.  The shelter that owned her at the time tried crate rest and a split on the back leg.  After a few days, the foster she was in reported she appeared to have pain in the front leg also and more x rays showed that both left legs were broken and her pelvis was fractured.  Approximately 3 1/2 weeks after the accident, Minette was transferred to CPR where an amazing surgeon took on the daunting task of pinning and plating not one but two legs that had started to heal incorrectly with the conservative management.  Minette survived a 9-hour surgery that worked and Minette has healed well.  We are forever grateful to the amazing surgeon who took on this task when several others told us to amputate and grateful to the donors who said "let's do this" and made sure Minette had the funds to allow our surgeon to do his work.  Thank you is not enough – but seeing Minette whole and healthy I hope will be.  Her new home needs to understand that this girl means a lot to us and we need for you to keep us updated on her life journey.  She is important and special.  We are going to be picky about where she goes.      House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note – we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.   To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you – poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR.
