Handsome boy seeking fresh start and love! LUCAS NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:Lucas      Best Guess for Breed:  Hound and retriever mix Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of October 2024      Gender:  Male Approximate Weight: 51 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven’t seen him with kids or cats but he can be tested.  Currently Living At: Lucky Dog’s South Carolina rescue campus; will need a foster or forever home in the DC area to come up after completing heartworm treatment.  Special Adoption Considerations: Lucas is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator – the address is at lower left! Lucas is Looking For: His forever home! He ended up in the shelter due to no fault of his own and he’s eager to just have his own humans once again. Long sniffy walks, world exploration and all that good stuff that comes with being a well-loved dog – yes, please! He’s way out of the puppy yips and well established – he knows what’s important in life. Being safe and under his own roof, quality kibble and a decent dog bed, and snugs with his humans at the end of a good, active day together. What do you say? Can you offer that in exchange for this loving boy’s adoring gazes and loyal companionship? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with his foster Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption.
