Gorgeous speckled Esther is possibly a domestic pigeon that was found doing poorly on the streets of San Francisco. One of our amazing volunteers rushed out to rescue her within minutes of hearing of Esther’s plight. Once rescued, it became apparent why she had been lying on the cold ground for who-knows-how-long. Both of her feet were entangled with human hair (known as stringfoot), causing her legs to be bound together, and her toes to become necrotic. Esther was transported to the vet where they promptly began removing the embedded hair and amputating several toes on each foot that were now entirely devitalized. She’s on the road to recovery in her foster home, but will soon be ready for someone to give her the loving, safe forever home she deserves.
