Debbie came to us from the NYC shelter system where she was found as a stray, very  emaciated. She is now healthy and happy and thriving in her foster home.   Debbie is the sweetest pup!! She is great at meeting new friends including the neighborhood kids.  She loves to lie next to you -movie nights are her favorite!  She also loves to cuddle in bed with you, but will sleep in a crate in your bedroom with just a little bit of whining at first.  And she doesn’t mind sleeping on a dog bed in your bedroom, either.   Debbie  loves  to play with other dogs.  Check out her videos.  She can seem  rough when playing with dogs, but no one ever gets hurt.  There’s just a lot of rough & tumble! She respects when dogs tell her they don’t want to play – she met a couple of 5-lb yorkies who told her to back away, and she did! Debbie may jump on kids at first (in excitement), but then is very sweet to them. Debbie enjoys going for walks.  She has fun playing with water in a baby pool but isn’t thrilled about swimming in the deep pool. She is polite taking treats, and knows ‘sit’.  She is  housetrained and doing well using the doggie door in her foster home. Debbie is a youngster and we do make sure there’s nothing for her to chew, but is very well-behaved in the house. She definitely tears up whatever dog toys she can, though!  She thinks it’s her job. Debbie weighed 42 lbs on 9/16. We think she’s close to full grown. Debbie is up to date on vaccines and spayed and microchipped. She has had her hips x-rayed and they are normal.  She does have luxating patellas in both knees, and we plan to do surgery on (at least) one knee when she’s about 18 months old (in March or so). This procedure will be covered by Wag On Inn at our vet in Barnegat NJ.  Debbie’s adoption fee is $500.  Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. After all these dogs have been through, they deserve a loving, committed home.   How to Adopt Me!
