Meet Darby! This gorgeous girl's journey began as a stray, but her luck turned around when a group of kindhearted teens took her in. They quickly realized she was very pregnant, and before long, Darby gave birth to six puppies in their home. Overwhelmed but wanting the best for her and her little ones, they reached out to their county shelter for help. Thanks to their efforts, Darby and her pups found safety with a local rescue, where she had a warm, loving foster home to care for her babies. All of her puppies, including one who came to Worthy Dog Rescue, have since found their forever homes—now, it’s Darby’s turn! As she’s settled in, Darby’s playful side has started to shine—she loves carrying a toy in her mouth, hoping someone will chase her! She rides great in the car and loves to go for walks. Her foster family walks her several times a day, and she gets very happy when she sees the leash come out. ily soon allowed her free roam. Darby has proven to be a very social pup who meets people with a wagging tail and loves attention. She’s been on outings to Lowe’s, cheered on her foster parents at pickleball, and greeted everyone she met with friendly enthusiasm. She’s also great with visitors at home—she especially adored a recent guest’s 13-year-old son! Her foster mom shared this update (only dog home): "Darby is super sweet, loving, and chill most of the time. She’s a happy, low-maintenance dog who settled in quickly. She’s smart and food-motivated but not aggressive, and she's already learning basic commands like ‘no’ and ‘stay.’ She LOVES car rides and is so relaxed in the car. Since she’s still young, she enjoys having things to chew on and would benefit from continued training—but she has such a wonderful, eager-to-please nature." After weaning her puppies, Darby moved into a new foster home with two resident dogs, giving us a chance to see how she does as part of a pack. She needed a more gradual and thoughtful introduction to the younger, playful dog in the home. Darby has a bold, excited play style and can come on a bit strong at first, so she’s best paired with another dog who truly enjoys active play. With some time, space, and patience from her foster mom, the two dogs have now become playmates and enjoy romping around together. Darby hasn’t been as well received by the senior dog in the home, who prefers a more laid-back lifestyle and isn’t a fan of Darby’s playful energy. While she means well, Darby’s enthusiasm for play can be a bit much for older or more reserved pups. We are still early in their introduction, so this may well improve. Darby's foster mom is taking it slow and making sure she's calm around the senior pup. Updates to follow. Overall, Darby will thrive in a home where she has structure and humans who understand her need for play and positive introductions. She would do well as an only dog or paired with another playful pup. She's excellent with people and a natural with kids.
