Please contact Rebecca Stein (RebeccaS@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.is sweet puppers! is not vintage comic strip! BLONDIE NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!   Name:  Blondie        Best Guess for Breed: Chihuahua mix   Best Guess for Age:  2 years as of August 2024       Gender:  Female Approximate Weight:  8.24 lbs  Gets Along With: Other dogs! She has also lived with cats.   We would be cautious placing Blondie in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare small breed dogs with their level of energy or noise. Children would need to be supervised closely to ensure their interactions with the dog are calm and gentle in nature.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant. Currently Living At: A DC area foster home.  Check out these videos of Blondie: https://youtu.be/90Kr1v3zluo and https://youtu.be/_MaIvBM-kuI. Special Adoption Considerations: Blondie is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator – the address is at lower left! In addition, Blondie can be a little vocal when nervous. For now, she may do best in a home where barking is not a concern.   Blondie is Looking For: Her forever home! She landed in the shelter through no fault of her own and is oh so eager to once again have her own humans for sniffy walks and all the adventures they can dream up. She’s pretty young and is eager to see and experience the world! What she wants most of all, though, is to love and be loved, to know where she belongs, to know she’s under her own roof every time the sun goes down. In exchange she promises adoring gazes and little tail wags and snuggles and loyal companionship. What do you say? Is Blondie the companion you have been seeking? What My Foster Says About Me: 10/22/24 Update: Blondie is the ultimate tiny sidekick. She’s a pro at making friends with little dogs, cats, and kiddos and a total foodie at dinner time. She even knows her name now (smart cookie)! She’s doing well with potty-training and crate-training. She prefers her crate with a cozy blanket over it, because who wants to feel left out of the action? Blondie’s not a fan of big dogs, though – those giants are just too much for her. She’s a world-class cuddler and traveler, as she is excellent in a car and fits in my tote bag when needed. Be prepared; she will spoon you all night whether you like it or not! She’s always ready for playtime and outside adventures. Although tiny, she loves long walks and would love a little yard for her to run and play. Blondie is a pure joy to foster.  Original Foster Note: Blondie is doing great with our other little dog and our cat. She is getting used to city sounds and is still a little skittish on walks, but being with my little dog makes her feel brave. She is so loveable and likes to sleep on your lap and play whenever you can. She is a high energy little dog, and benefits from enrichment toys and outdoor stimulation (like walks). She’s very food-motivated, so training is also going well.  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption.
